All I want for Christmas......

Morning peeps!  I hear today is your last day of school for a long time! I've already got something very interesting under my tree...check it out!

This bone might keep me busy for the next year!  My "forever Grandma" brought it to me....thanks Grandma!
I've heard all your great ideas for me for Christmas: cat food,a plane ticket to Texas, cheese, treats....I love all of these ideas...thanks! I think I will use this time to be grateful for my new family that has given me a warm house, food, water, a kitty cat and more love than this dog knows what to do with.

I do have an idea that I am going to ask Santa for and I think you should too.

PENCILS, PENCILS and more PENCILS! You have to have pencils in order to do well in school!  I always think I look smarter when I have a pencil...what do you think?

Sometimes I forget that you don't eat them.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr............

Brrrrrrrr.....it's cold outside!!!! We got a little snow this weekend but the temperature got done to 1 degrees!! How is a dog suppose to stay warm around here?  I think a vacation to Texas might be in order.


I love my walks but it's kind of tough when it's below FREEZING outside.  What's a dog to do?  My "forever family" says that I am EXTRA CRAZY inside when it's cold outside....bring on the sun!

I'm starting to make my list for Santa....got any ideas for the crazy, cold dog in Missouri? Maybe a few more cats to chase.  : )

What is a basement?

WHATS UP PEEPS!!!!!  Say what.......I hear some of you have questions about what a basement is!  I forget sometimes that I live in Missouri and you all live in Texas.  Yup....we have basements in most of our houses.  Here is my explanation:

Here is the front of my house....come on inside! (can you see me? I'm kind of a cutie!)

Once you are inside.....here is the door that goes down to the BASEMENT.

When you open the door....these are the stairs that go DOWN to the basement .

At the bottom of our stairs is a popcorn popper....I always have to stop and take a sniff...have I told you about my love for popcorn?

Turn around...and here is our basement!  I love to chase the cat around the pool table!!!!

Here is the door in our basement that walks outside.

Here is the back of the house where you walk out of the basement.  Now I want to tell you about my FAVORITE thing in our basement.......

Are you a leader?

Do you lead....or follow?  I must admit....I am more of a follower.  I would like to be more of a leader but I just can't help myself.  I think that being a shelter dog has made me more of a follower.  I am insecure and am afraid my "forever Mom" is always going to leave me....so I DO NOT like to let her out of my sight!!!!!

When she does laundry......I go to the laundry room.  When she goes to the mailbox....I go with her.  If she goes to the basement....I go down with her.  When she goes to bed...I go too!  She is my fearless leader and I follower her.  Even when I chase that darn cat...I'm really just following.  I'm going to work on this.

When you look up a leader in the dictionary.  It says that a leader is one who goes before, is at the head or in advance....one who leads the way.  If you are a good leader you want others to look up to you...by working hard in school, having good values and always being kind to others.

When you look up follower in the dictionary it says that you follow others in regard to his or her beliefs, or you imitate and copy.  Sometimes when we follow we do not give ourselves a voice and we allow others to make decisions (bad and good) for us.

Which one are you?  A leader or a follower?  I am going to try to be more of a LEADER!!!!!! Which brings me to why I wrote this post today:

My "forever MOM" has been putting up Christmas decorations this week and climbing a ladder.....I am trying to follow her.

HEY...."How did she get up there?"

"Oh, this is easy!!!!! What's the matter...haven't you ever seen a dog climb a ladder before?"

Do your ears hang low......can you tie them in a knot, can you tie them in a bow? My theme song...get it?

I love my BIG ears!  They make me special.  Some people laugh at me or point at me when I'm walking because they cannot believe how big my ears are. I accept them because they  make me different and special.  What makes you different and special?

Home, sweet home!!!

My "forever family" is home....and so am I!!!! Back to my life of sleeping, eating, walking and chasing cats....gotta love it! Here I am taking a little nap on our sofa.

I had a good time at the Elk Hound Ranch.  I made some new friends but they didn't have any cats....so that was kind of boring.  Cat's make everything more interesting! When I got home I was greeted with some GREAT cheese sticks from Mariana...yummy!  I'm not sure how she knew about my  love for cheese but THANK YOU!!  I also heard that a lot of you were thankful for ME...WOW!  You sure know how to make a dog feel special.  Thanksgiving is over and I have to say I was pretty sad that I didn't get a turkey leg...maybe next year!

I think it is nap time....I'm still pretty tired from my time away from my "forever family!"  Thanks for your patience while I was away but I'm not going anywhere for awhile...study hard!

A time to be thankful....

Hello Friends,

Well, I'm leaving for the Elk Hound Ranch today.  My "forever family"  keeps calling it the "puppy camp" but I'm not falling for it. They are going to Texas for Thanksgiving but PROMISE they will come back for me when they get home.  I'm trying to keep a positive attitude so I've decided to list the 10 things I am most thankful for......here it goes:

#10 - A leash - every time I see my leash...I know I'm heading out for a walk.  (usually 5-6 a day)

#9 - All of  our neighbors who love to say hello to me everyday (some even keep treats in their garages for me).

#8 - To all my friends at Furry Friends Refuge who saved me when I was very sick and helped me find a "forever family"

#7 - All the trees and bushes in our neighborhood.  Without them I would have nowhere to "take care of my business" on our walks.

#6 - Dr. Johnson, my vet, who has a cool truck and gives me treats!

#5 - For Miss Scheetz, who is the greatest 4th grade teacher ever.  Without her....I wouldn't have "my peeps".

#4 - For our recliner, sofa, and bed...all of my favorite spots to take a nap.

#3 - For "my peeps" in Texas....4th graders rock!!!!!!!!!!

#2 - For the kitty and her CAT FOOD...yummy!

#1 - For my "forever family" who adopted me and gave me the life that every dog should have!A place that I have shelter, food, water and lot's of LOVE!   Every day I try to give them as much love as they have provided for me!

This is kind of loud because it was so windy today but thought "my peeps" would like to see me on my walk...VERY exciting stuff!  Wish you kids lived closer so we could have long walks together.  Work hard in class today!

Q & A time....again!

Hello Friends,

I was on my walk yesterday.....then, I saw this:

What's going on?  Are they swimming cats?  My "forever Family" says they are geese flying south for the winter (maybe to Texas?) and they just took a break.  Don't tell anyone but they kind of scared me!

Anyway....time to answer a few letters.

1)David C. wants me to be a person so I can eat turkey.....crazy kid!  I know my forever family will let me eat turkey......because they love me :)

2)Mirka told me not to be scared because my family will come get me from the kennel....thanks Mirka, your a real sweetie and I hope you are right!

3)Can I draw?  I didn't think I could because my paws make it hard to hold a pencil so you told me to put the pencil in my mouth....I ate it! Sorry...I was hungry!

4) Do I have any friends that are pitbulls? Sure I do...I try to be friends with all the dogs....no matter their breed, color or nationality....that's how I roll!

Time for a walk....gotta love my life!

Have you ever heard that song?  It's my all time favorite!!!!!!!  I love so many things my "forever family" does for me but my favorite has to be when they go out for dinner and bring home a bone....for me!!!

Sometimes I just can't wait for them to give it to me so I just jump up to help them!

I love bones, I love bones, I love bones...yum, yum, yum....the only food that is better is CAT FOOD!

Hey, I got some great letters from my "peeps" this week.  I'm still reading through them all but will try and answer a few before the end of the week.  Are you boys and girls working hard in school this week? What are you learning about?

Gotta go...the cat just went outside and I'm going to sneak some cat food while she's gone....

My dog's are tired!

Morning friends,

My dog's are tired!(that means I'm exhausted in doggie talk) I worked all weekend to try and get kitty to like me.....and it didn't happen.  She laughed at me and my kitty disguise.  She knew it was me the whole time because my ears are so big and they were sticking out of my costume. Oh well....maybe next time!

I can't write much today because I'm super busy with a new bone.

I hear my "forever family" is Texas bound next week and I'm starting to get nervous about them taking me to a kennel.  I thought I just got out of that place and know they are taking me back.  They keep promising that they will pick me up again after Thanksgiving but that's the trouble being a rescue dog....we are insecure sometimes.  My former family made promises too and then never kept them :(

I want my "peeps" to tell me the truth.  Do you think they will come back and get me?  Has anyone ever broken a promise to you.....if so, how did you handle it?

Here kitty, kitty........

Morning friends,

Well. I have been in my new home for almost two months and I STILL have not made friends with the kitty.  Her name is Buffy, but she prefers to be called kitty!  This is how she looked before I came to live here:

I hear she was a real sweety...always purring and wanting to have her belly rubbed.  Well, apparently she dislikes me SO much she has been hiding outside and in the basement.  If I see her she hisses loudly and growls at me.  I'm not gonna lie...I don't like her!  So, I have an idea......I'm going to disguise myself as a cat:

What do you think?  There is no way she will recognize me now.  I'm sure we will be cuddling VERY soon....I will let you know on Monday how it goes.

Q & A time

Hello Friends:

It has come to my attention that my "peeps" in Texas have a few questions for me.....so today I will try to answer just a few.  I'm ready.......

1. Have I ever heard of hot Cheetos and cheese? No..but it sounds yummy!  I like Cheetos and cheese....so I think I'm going to LOVE it!
2. What are my friends names? Lassie, Milo, Scooby Doo and Snoopy....are just a few.
3. Have I ever had corn in a cup? No, but I love corn on the cob!!!
4. How am I getting along with our cat, Buffy?  Not so well(will send pics soon) I love to eat her food and chase her but she does not seem to enjoy me at all.  Hopefully one day soon we can live in harmony........

I will answer more questions later.  I want to thank Irvin for volunteering to bring me a bone......you rock Irvin!  I would like to know more about "my peeps" dogs.  Can you boys and girls send some pictures and stories about your dogs?

Hello Friends,

Do you ever get tired of the word NO!  I sure do.  I feel like every time I turn around my "Forever Family" is yelling "No!" You know....like when I'm chewing on a shoe, looking to see what is on top of the table or my favorite....eating the cat food!

Even when I am walking on my favorite route, this is what I have to see:

That sign scares me every time.

I want to respect my "forever family" because of all the great things they do for me....so I will try harder and harder everyday to follow the rules. I need to learn that I cannot chew on shoes, or have my paws on the dinner table and I should  NEVER eat the cat food!  That one will be the hardest because it is soooooo yummy in my tummy!

Taking care of business.....

Good Morning Friends,

Yup....that's right......I'm taking care of business.  That's it, I said it....taking care of business because that's what we dog's do when we get outside.....take care of our business.  I know you "humans" think this is an awkward subject, but not us dog's.....it's what we do!

Every chance we get!

It's the weekend.....before it starts, I want to give a "shout out" to my peeps at Captain D. Salinas Elementary.  They are the reason I write this blog.......every day I pray that my "forever family" will take me to Texas to meet them. I want to read them one of my favorite books and make sure they are all studying hard and keeping up with their homework. This weekend I will be napping, walking and eating every chance I get.....what are my peeps doing this weekend?

Dreams of Candyland!

Hello Friends,

Guess what I was dreaming about last night?

Yikes!  I don't think dogs are suppose to eat chocolate but I sure had to smell it all night. We had lot's of kid's coming to the door and not one of them brought me a bone. Yet, we kept giving them  candy....makes no sense to me.  I must admit...it was very exciting waiting for the kids to come to the door:

This was my spot most of the night.  My "forever family" keeps telling me that I am so cute, that I don't even need a costume!  I'm sure loving my new life.  Thanks "forever family"....this was the best Halloween ever!  I think I will go back to bed now and dream of a tootsie roll!

My dog's are tired!

Morning Friends,

I'm exhausted!  Gone are the days when I laid around in my kennel all day hoping to be adopted. Yesterday I had four walks,  went to a birthday party with my "forever family", then another walk where I made friends with a golden retriever puppy and we played and played!

I'm kind of wanting to sleep in this morning but my "forever family" apparently has to go to work so they can bring home the "dog food!" Not sure what I have to do today?  Hoping for some good walks and maybe a few games of fetch!  Super excited about Halloween this weekend!  Hoping for some dropped candy and kids that want to pet and love on me.......will let you know on Monday how it goes.  Have a fun and safe Halloween out there!

Hello Friends,

My name is Mallone and I have been recently adopted into my "Forever Home!" There sure are a lot of dogs like me in the world.....looking for people to love them and take care of them.

I'm a 2 or 3 year old Basset Hound.(we don't know for sure) I love to be outside and to go on long walks with my new "Forever family."  They are so nice to me...I get to eat when I want, go outside if I want, and sometimes...I get to snuggle in bed with them.  It sure beats living in a dog shelter!

I have decided to start a blog to talk about my GREAT new life plus I'm hoping to become a voice for all the lonely and mistreated dogs living in shelters.  I hope you will check in from time to time.  I do lot's of funny things, eat some interesting food, and have lot's of opinions that I want to share.....come back and see me!
